Transparency, independence and limits of the i-CAC index

Since its creation, i-CAC has championed an independent and transparent approach to rating artists. The i-CAC index is based on concrete, public criteria assessed by experts in contemporary art. Its aim is to bring clarity to an art market that is sometimes seen as opaque or subjective.

An impartial benchmark with no commercial ties

i-CAC is a private initiative founded by artists, and is not answerable to any public institution or gallery network. The platform has no financial or promotional ties with the artists it lists. This guarantees complete independence in awarding the price index.

The data used to assess an artist comes from accessible sources: exhibitions, auctions, catalogues, publications, specialist websites, professional networks and so on. Artists may also provide additional information, but only verifiable facts are taken into account.

Where necessary, i-CAC may request supporting documents (invoices, certificates, publications) to confirm certain aspects of an application. This verification process helps make the index more reliable.

Responsibility and limits of the system

i-CAC cannot guarantee the accuracy of information supplied or published by third parties. If errors or omissions are found, artists can correct them at any time and may request a free review of their index.

It is also worth remembering that the i-CAC index does not judge the artistic or aesthetic quality of a body of work. It is no substitute for the critical, subjective and personal response each of us has to an artwork. The index measures only an artist’s professional recognition and visibility on the market.

i-CAC aims to provide a rigorous, unbiased assessment that is accessible and easy for everyone to understand. This impartial, transparent stance is one of the keys to its growing recognition in the contemporary art world.
