Tribute to MICHEL-HENRY
Enlarge the illustration The painter of poppies (his nickname in the United States) left us for other shores in his 88th year, in Paris, on Christmas Day 2016. He leaves behind an impressive career, with a museum devoted to him in Japan, where he was adored.
Also known to many as the “Painter of Happiness”, he made his name with his still lifes, bouquets of flowers and landscapes. His loyal clients and admirers included Jacques Chirac, Philippe Douste-Blazy, Countess Pierre de Suède, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Line Renaud, Nicoletta, Jeanne Moreau and many others.
Michel-Henry was made a Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour in 1981 and of the Order of Agricultural Merit in 1984, and was awarded the Grand Vermeil Medal of the City of Paris in 1986.
Univers des Arts pays tribute to him in its latest issue, No. 188, March–April 2017, in an article by Patrice de la Perrière
